About Us

Homebuyer is the mortgage company made for first-time home buyers.

We’re not mortgage brokers or affiliate marketers. We are an actual mortgage lender with a federal banking license. We approve your loan, send the money to your home closing, and ensure you get the keys on time.

We also do something no other lender does: we work exclusively with first-time home buyers. We don’t do refinances. We don’t do second homes. We don’t sell rental or investment properties. We only work with first-time buyers like you to help you achieve the American Dream of owning a home.

Our Vision

To make homeownership for first-time home buyers more accessible and inclusive, which strengthens neighborhoods across America.

We believe that technology can make owning your first home simpler and easier. Through education, personalized digital experiences, and human support, we aim to build stronger communities where everyone can experience the pride of owning their own home.

How Does It Work?

Homebuyer uses better design and technology to make the mortgage approval process fast and less expensive.

We provide world-class educational information and our online courses to educate first-time home buyers so they’re prepared for the home buying process. Learn more about our editorial guidelines.

The first important step is getting pre-approved for a mortgage. Getting pre-approved is a simple process that takes less than three minutes. From there, Homebuyer will help you pinpoint your budget, make good choices, and get you a mortgage that works best for your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions we get from customers.

Does Homebuyer operate in all 50 states?

Homebuyer is powered by a federal bank, which means we’re not a mortgage broker and we can lend in all 50 states. For now, however, we do not lend in AK and NY.

Can Homebuyer help me buy a home out of state?

Yes! Homebuyer can lend across the entire United States – and we’re available in every time zone, too. Learn more about buying a home out of state.

I’m a first-time home buyer, how do I get started?

First-time home buyers should get pre-approved before anything else. It takes less than 3 minutes.

After your pre-approval is complete, we’ll assign an experienced loan guide to help with your budget, and pair you with a real estate expert to guide you through the next steps.

I don’t have enough money for a down payment, can Homebuyer help?

Yes, regardless of your down payment size, Homebuyer can help.

We can help you find local grant programs that pay for all or a portion of your down payment, or we can help decide whether 100% financing is an option.

Homebuyer also offers down payment assistance through our Down Payment Assistance program.

I have a low credit score, can I still buy a home?

Of course. Your credit score is only one part of your mortgage approval. Homebuyer will help you look at all of your options and choose which one is best.

I have recently declared bankruptcy, can I still buy a home?

Yes, you can buy a home after bankruptcy. There’s a minimum waiting period of two years for most buyers. Learn more about buying a home after bankruptcy. If you have specific questions about buying a home after bankruptcy, chat with us.

What kinds of loans does Homebuyer offer?

Homebuyer is backed by a federal bank so we offer every government-backed mortgage loan available. This includes conventional loans through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, FHA loans, VA loans for veterans and active members of the military, 100% USDA for home buyers in less-populated parts of the country, and more.

Don’t guess which loan is best for you and your home. Get pre-approved and let Homebuyer help you find out.
