They got rid of the minimum credit score required to get a mortgage? Yeah, they kind of just did. Government agency Fannie Mae just announced today that effective November 16th, 2025, all new mortgage applications will not be subject to minimum credit score requirements. Previously, home buyers and refinancing households they needed a 620 credit score to get their conventional mortgage approved. That requirement is now gone. Note: this does not mean that every loan will be approved or that credit history is going to be ignored as part of your mortgage application. It just means that the 620 number is no longer relevant when you're getting a conventional loan. Which, by the way, 67.1% of home buyers use. No announcement yet from the other backer of conventional mortgages, Freddie Mac, but that release should happen soon. I'm Dan with Homebuyer.com. Happy homebuying.
